Raíz

The project ‘RAÍZ’ is the result, the awareness of a very powerful transformation process, of an awakening. For a long time I felt that there was something that was being reabsorbed and annulled within me, and what the process I have experienced in recent years has brought me thanks to a lot of study and internal movement, has been that mine was a growth in the opposite direction, like a root grows, a vital part that no one sees, but that is there, occupying a very important place. In Fang Nchí (language of one of the majority ethnic groups in Central Africa to which part of my family belonged) it is that part devoid of leaves and flowers but that serves as support; it is that hidden place of a thing and from which the visible or manifest part comes.

The seven songs of her album claim the importance of giving life to all those unknown places in us so that, after that rooting and firmness, we can reconnect with our true essence, our authentic self. And they have influences in different musical styles in which improvisation is always present. In my search I came across everything that is held in our memory, what we are told, what we remember. Stories from the past that build our identity, and that shape our personality to unsuspected points. If ‘RAÍZ’ is a return to the origin, when thinking about where I come from, where we come from, I feel that historical memory is essential to build ourselves from an honest place as a society, from its foundations, because it should not be built in any other way. And we must recover and preserve it, treat it with value and respect.
